So you think you want to build?

Hi fellow design lovers!! I want to take the time in this first post to explain what the heck it is that I do and why you really ought to consider hiring me, or at least someone like me, to aid in your design journey.

Let me start off by assuring you, design buddy, that no project is too small to throw me on the case. Design is a multi-faceted and extremely broad name for the myriad of sub-jobs I actually do. Whole home continuity (making sure your kitchen/bathrooms/living spaces all make sense together) is a term I've coined for a basic concept of my job. It takes the right eye to let you know your Cape Cod themed bathroom needs a different shade of plumbing, or maybe that, as fun as multi-colored spaces are (and they are!!), the colors we're landing on don't flow nicely....

And this might play in to other needs you didn't know you'd have. For example, did you know, switching plumbing out might result in in-wall valve changes? OR, maybe your countertop budget is decent, but not waterfall island decent : ) And in knowing this, I'd be waiting in the wings with a sensible but chic back-up plan!!

It's part of the process and boy can that process become very expensive, time-consuming, and confusing. Worry not!! I'm here to school you in these blog posts and let you in on some key information that is guaranteed to save you heart pain and cold hard cash.

Lesson #1: Custom Builds.

Yes, you need me. It's that simple. A home from the ground up is expensive, and there's nothing worse than your appliances showing up too late to close on your home, tile that's laid incorrectly, plumbing that's not 100% accurate, or terrible lighting. It takes a moderator of sorts, a real Gandalf of home building, if you will, to organize and format your home. With my training, I have the ability to speak fluent Contractor. Multiple meetings are necessary to create the space you've been eyeing on Pinterest for the last few years.

Coming on board with me means professional plumbing bidding, cabinetry & cabinetry redlines, money saving and space utilizing concepts during your drafting process, proper appliance bidding, exterior paint and stain consults, rock/brick consults, flooring and bath tile bidding, and lighting. Let's look at it this way: you're most likely working extremely hard to fund the gorgeous new build you're trying to start, do you have time to take on a second full-time job? And if something isn't correct, will you know to spot it? This is where primary design (the base concepts of your home) is best left to me or someone like me, to be the eyes and ears for you.

I'll tell you too, design buddy, what you'll pay me in the front of the deal will be absolutely worth it when your designed spaces are coming in at budget!! Because I don't charge a commission rate on the back end, I have the largest vested interest in not only providing you with the best pricing, but the most integral service. This means, during your building process, you'll have at least one neutral party keeping your wishes in line with your wallet.

It's a win/win!!

Much love,

Em
